Director

Michael T.J. McGoey, Q.C. B.S, LL.B. is a specialist in Civil Litigation and is certified by the Law Society. He joined Hughes Amys LLP in 1950 and has been partners with the firm since 1975. He has defended both Plaintiffs and Defendants sides in a wide variety of cases. He has also appeared as counsel on numerous Jury and Non-Jury trials before all levels of trial and appellate Courts in the Province, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and before various administrative tribunals including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. He has actively appeared as counsel at Pre-trial Conferences, Mediations and Settlement Conferences.

He is a strong advocate of Mediation as a toll for resolution and is very well-known for his successful accomplishments in and out of the court-room. In 1983, Michael was appointed to the Queens Counsel for the Province of Ontario. Michael has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degree and has been involved in various notable cases since 1973.

September 29, 1995 – Chaired one day program presented to a cross-section of the industry on the topic of Errors & Omissions Insurance and Professional Liability at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Toronto.

1995 – Co-chaired Law Society of Upper Canada – CLE programs – half day program at Osgoode Hall – Personal Injury Practice: It’s More Than Motor Vehicle

October 1995 – Participated as panellist at the Ontario Ski Resort Association (OSRA) Risk Management Conference at Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ontario – a program related to ski area liability.

April 1996 – Organized and chaired in-house seminar presenting Dr. Henry Berry speaking on the topic: The Usefulness and Limitations of Neuropsychological Testing in Medical Legal Practice – Litigation of the Closed Head Injury.

February 1, 1997 – Participated at the Canadian Bar Association – Ontario 1997 Institute of Continuing Legal Education and presented a paper and participated in a seminar on the subject of – Medical Malpractice: Investigating the Claim – Who, What, Why, When, and Where. The overall program was entitled Smooth Operation: Developing, Assessing and Conducting Medical Malpractice Claims.
