Erick Thompson

After receiving his first press pass while still in high school, he immediately began his on-air career, crossing the country to work at a new rock radio station in the Maritimes. His interest then turned to sport; he relocated to Calgary to work with ABC-TV during the 1988 Winter Olympics and to cover the NHL for the University of Calgary radio station.

After spending time traveling, he returned to Vancouver Island, settling in Nanaimo where he became a locally-known radio, newspaper, and Shaw TV personality. He eventually began full-time work with Shaw, coordinating the rollout of their internet service throughout northern Vancouver Island. In 2000, Erick relocated to Richmond Hill to work with Shaw as a producer and host, covering news throughout the greater Toronto area and producing and hosting a technology segment carried across Canada.

Erick volunteers with S'port for Kids Foundation, a national organization raising funds for youth in organized sports. Also comfortable in the world of make-believe, he has worked as a film and television extra.

After hosting the morning news on New Day and working as The New VI's technology specialist, Erick can now be seen as host of VINews at 11PM.
