"Mayor
For a Day" Auction Gives Youth Sporting Chance
Richmond Hill, June 3-- The S'port for
Kids Foundation is challenging business and community
leaders to step up to the plate at the S'port for Kids
Ball on Friday evening, June 7 and bring in the winning
bid in the "Mayor for a Day"; auction. The Foundation's
annual gala, which raises funds for needy children who
lack the financial means to participate in sports programs
or join a sports team, will be held (6 p.m.) at the
Premiere Ballroom and Convention Centre in Richmond
Hill (Hwy 7 & Leslie St.). The opening bid is expected
to be $1,500.
The star-studded event will feature Canadian
entertainer and songwriter, Amy Sky, The Nylons and
Olympic medallist Tracy Wilson at centre stage and present
S'port Grants to four outstanding organizations in the
GTA that champion sports programs for underprivileged
youth. The S'port Grants will ensure that children who
live in poverty have a chance to participate in organized
team sports.
The acting "Mayor for a Day" will wear
the 'Chain of Office', meet the media and conduct official
duties with Mayor William(Bill) Bell from dawn to midnight.
"This is a superb opportunity to give
a friend an unforgettable present or for a corporation
to show its civic pride,"; said Alex Yuan, Chairman
of the S'port for Kids Foundation. "The winner
will enjoy a unique experience and at the same time
give disadvantaged youth, aged 6-18, the kind positive
reinforcement and encouragement they need to succeed,"
Yuan said.
To place an advance auction bid for "Mayor
for a Day" and order tickets for the 2002 S'port
for Kids Ball, phone 905-886-4392 or complete the form

Tax deductible charitable donations will go directly
to support sport initiatives.
The S'port for Kids Foundation was founded
in 1997 and is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors
comprised of business leaders in the Greater Toronto
area. The Foundation allocates 100% of its net proceeds
to community team sports programs.
