MEDIA ALERT
Who?
George Chuvalo,
Honorary Chair of the S’port for Kids
Ball and former boxing champion, is asking the
media to team up with him to raise $100,000
and give needy youth a chance to live their
sports dreams.
What?
The S’port For Kids Ball will be held
on Saturday, May 1 (6 pm) at
the Premier Ballroom, Richmond Hill.
When?
12-2:00 pm
Where?
Children’s Aid Foundation, 25
Spadina Ave. (Just north of Bloor,
East side street)
Why?
George is asking for your support in
raising $100,000 to give needy youth
an opportunity to play sports in safe environments.
With government cuts to recreation, thousands
of youth in the GTA hang out on the streets
and are pressured to join gangs and drug rings
because they don’t have funds to participate
in healthy recreation and sports activities.
The Foundation has provided
$400,000 for community sports since 2000 and
helped over 3,700 disadvantaged youth, six to
18 years of age, children in foster care and
new immigrants, who otherwise are denied the
opportunity to participate in sports.
The S’port for Kids Ball
on May 1 will raise funds for after-school sports
initiatives in St. James Town, Regent Park and
the Malvern community, where there is increased
gun violence and one of the highest percentages
of single mothers living under the poverty line
in Canada. A few amateur stars in the community
programs recently qualified as candidates for
university sport scholarships.
