What
a gala event...
The S'ports Ball 2000 was an
evening to remember. The range of dress and
age of participants was so diverse and yet there
was something for everyone. The 6 to 7
p.m. reception gave one time to examine the
variety of items available in the silent and
live auction. For the silent auction there
were dinners for two, four and even for ten,
getaway weekends at different hotels, barbeques,
and even a basketball signed by the Raptors.
The live auction was even better and included
an Oiler's hockey jersey signed by the team,
and a poster of the 1967 Stanley cup winners
signed by all the 1967 Leaf players. For
a small donation one could keep themselves busy
by shooting baskets, putting golf balls and
tossing a football through a target.
A local school band started
the night by playing our national anthem.
Our MC's Pauline Chan and Eric Thompson guided
us through the entire night while a gymnastic
club of girls aged 5 to 13 thrilled us with
jumps, cartwheels and rolls on the stage.
Red Kelly brought messages to us how sport can
become part of our youth development and thereafter.
Special sport grants were awarded to three different
organizations. Danny Diaz finished off
the night as he entertained all age groups with
music from every decade and added a few jokes
too. All and all the night was spectacular,
from beginning to end.
