S'port For Kids Helps Kids
Stand Tall and Proud
S'port Grants give at-risk kids a chance to play
sports
When ?
Friday, December 21 - 9: 30 a.m.-10: 00 a.m.
Where ?
Office of Mayor Bill Bell, 225 East Beaver Creek Road
Richmond Hill , (north of Hwy. 7), First Floor ( above
Street Level)
What?
Presentation: The S'port for Kids Foundation (SFK) will
give thousands of underprivileged children in the GTA
the hope and funds they desperately need to participate
in team sports and buy equipment.
Who ?
Mayor Bill Bell, Honorary Chairman of the SFK Foundation
(as Santa Claus), Alex Yuan, president of A&L Computer
Limited of Richmond Hill and founder of the SFK Foundation,
will present S'port Grants to the Children's Aid
Foundation (Society), Toronto City Mission, Yonge Street
Mission and Canadian Chinese Youth Athletic Association
to fund organized sports programs.
Why?
The sports grants will ensure that hundreds of talented
kids and new Canadians, who can't afford to join a team
or buy equipment, have a chance to participate in sports,
day camps and after-school recreation programs and learn
leadership skills that build self confidence. There
are numerous studies that indicate children living in
poverty, without access to extra curricular activities,
become involved in criminal and anti-social behaviour
such as drug abuse, and are coerced into street gangs
and youth crime.
The SFK grants will provide the financial fuel for
sports activities in St James Town, Toronto, the most
densely populated community in Canada; Willowtree, a
public housing community in Willowdale; Malvern in Scarborough,
Children's Aid PLAY fund and Canadian Chinese Basketball
program.
The S'port for Kids Foundation, a national charity
founded in 1997, encourages community sports organizations
to apply for S'port grants. It has awarded over $100,000
for sports programs for new Canadians and at-risk children
this year.
